Montessori Country Day Summer

Continuing Education Through Summer

Why Spend Your Summer With Us?

At our Montessori school, we believe summer is the ultimate season for hands-on discovery and learning. While many programs simply fill the day, we curate experiences that empower children to follow their interests and continue their education through summer. Whether they are digging in our gardens, conducting science experiments, or creating collaborative art, our students enjoy the freedom of a traditional summer combined with the purposeful environment of a Montessori classroom. MCDS Summer in the Country is the perfect way for students to spend time playing, learning, and being outdoors in a Montessori environment.

*Please not that students do not need to be enrolled for the school year to register for Summer in the Country.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does your summer camp offer part-time program options?

No. Unlike our school year program, MCDS Summer Camp is offered as a five-day-a-week, full-day program. We intentionally design camp this way because consistency benefits children. Attending daily allows students to: Build strong friendships and classroom community. Settle into routines more easily. Experience the full scope of weekly themes and projects. Develop independence and confidence through continuity. A full-week schedule ensures children don’t miss special activities, hands-on projects, or collaborative experiences that build throughout the week.

Who are the teachers?

Our summer camp is led by the trusted and experienced MCDS school-year staff. To support both quality programming and teacher wellness, we rotate our teachers throughout the summer. This allows our team to: Maintain energy and enthusiasm Take well-deserved vacation time Return refreshed and ready to engage students Children will be cared for by familiar faces who understand Montessori philosophy and the MCDS community.

Are water activities included?

Yes. Age-appropriate water play and outdoor activities are incorporated throughout the summer. These may include splash days, sprinkler fun, and hands-on outdoor exploration. Safety is always our top priority, and all water activities are carefully supervised by trained staff.

Is summer camp open to children who do not attend MCDS during the school year?

Yes! We welcome both currently enrolled MCDS students and new families to our summer camp program (space permitting). Summer is a wonderful opportunity for new students to experience our Montessori environment, meet teachers, and build confidence before the school year begins.

What is taught during summer camp?

Our summer program blends the best of Montessori structure with the excitement of summer fun. Mornings: Children participate in authentic Montessori work time, reinforcing skills in math, reading, practical life, sensorial exploration, science, and cultural studies. Afternoons: Campers enjoy engaging themed activities that rotate throughout the summer. Themes may include science exploration, art, nature studies, cultural adventures, hands-on projects, water days, and more. This balanced approach keeps children academically engaged while embracing the creativity and joy of summer.

How does summer camp prepare my child for the upcoming school year?

Summer at MCDS maintains academic engagement while reducing learning loss. Through continued Montessori work in the mornings, children: Strengthen foundational math and literacy skills Build independence and responsibility Practice concentration and problem-solving Maintain social confidence and classroom routines Students return to the fall semester feeling confident, capable, and ready to thrive.
