The Story Behind My Why | Ms. Geneva Jones | Head of School

Finding Purpose

At the heart of everything we do lies a great sense of purpose. The work we love the most is rarely just about the task itself, it is about the meaning that carries it, the lives that it touches, and the impact that it leaves behind. For Ms. Geneva Jones, education has always been more than a just career; it has been a calling.

Her personal journey has been shaped by moments that showed her how powerful learning can be when it sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and empowers individuals to share their gifts with the world. Take a moment to dive into her story below.

The Story Behind My Why

“As a young piano teacher, one of my greatest joys was watching students discover that they could interpret a previously unknown “code” and turn it into something expressive and shareable. The process of unlocking music built their confidence and sparked joy, not just in them, but in those around them. It was contagious. That experience shaped my early belief in the power of learning environments that support self-discovery, creativity, and purpose.

After earning my Music Education degree, I reflected on what kind of environment I wanted to teach in and was drawn back to my own experience as a Montessori student.”

"I remembered a place where children were treated with deep respect, encouraged to explore independently, and empowered to understand their impact on the world around them."

“I remembered a place where children were treated with deep respect, encouraged to explore independently, and empowered to understand their impact on the world around them. That memory led me to begin teaching in a Montessori Early Childhood (3–6 years) classroom, where I saw firsthand how capable young children are when given trust and freedom within clear, respectful boundaries.”

Living My Purpose

“Now, as the Head of School at Montessori Country Day School and as a parent whose children have attended Montessori programs, I have seen the lasting value of this approach from multiple perspectives. Montessori education does not just prepare children academically, it helps them develop a grounded sense of self, empathy for others, and confidence in their ability to make a difference. It is a privilege to lead a community that believes in children’s potential and works every day to cultivate it.”
